Great experience but feeling sad today. Elephant tourism is often very bad for the animals. Riding, shows, & painting are only possible by breaking their will and causing physical pain and fear. This happy looking one @phuketelephantsanctuary was rescued from an elephant riding company after a lifetime of labor. Notice the shredded ears - that's from torn out piercings to control the animal for rides. Also, see the missing tail? It was cut off for a trinket. Even if you don't see any abuse, there are hidden pricks and pinches to control the animal. Please be conscientious of what your tourist dollars support, and help spread the word!

England is my city - I'm obviously joking please don't think I'm stupid friends - As much as I love this picture, it makes me sad that THIS is what people think Singapore is. Singapore is so much more than the stunning gardens by the bay. Don't get me wrong, it's a part of Singapore sure, modern infrastructure with the beauty of nature. But real Singapore is more than that. Its HDB's and food courts, traffic jams and swearing uncles in their cabs, its the day to day hustle and bustle of the city, people rushing on and off the MRT and running for their buses. Its the community of people at the end of their working day coming into a communal food area, and sitting down next to or near strangers, other family's, or a group of friends, and eating an amazing meal that costs like S$5-10. - Singapore for me has always been the city (definitely not the only one in the world though) that has always had a beautiful mixture of modern buildings with nature. It's something I've admired about the city ever since I moved here when I was 5 years old. It is like a tropical paradise, but its also elegant and comfortable. It can be adventurous but it can also be rough. Everyone knows it's expensive here and frankly it is, but you can find the cheapness in places it counts, like food and public transport. Sadly not rent - Singapore is an interesting place, and it's one I'll never forget in my life when I eventually move on from it. - If you haven't visited Singapore before, save up for a week or two there. But don't just go to Marina Bay Sands and Gardens By the Bay. Take the MRT. Ask a local where the best food court is. Try make friends with someone who looks nothing like you. Go see Sir Stamford Raffles' statues. Go try every Asian food you've never heard of (because you will find it here for sure!) Experience the REAL Singapore. And have a good one, family
